Malta, Cruise, and Italy

I am having a hard time getting excited about this coming trip, as this seems a lousy time to be traveling abroad. We have attempted to take this trip (or something close to it) since March of last year. This trip was scheduled and cancelled twice this year! But now it looks as if it might actually happen.

That said, if you are considering traveling abroad, let me tell you what we have had to do to prepare for this one:

  • Get a COVID test
  • Complete and online app called VeriFly for the cruise company and the country where we start (Malta)
  • Complete a Health Declaration Form for Malta
  • Complete EU Digital Passenger Location Forms (dPLF) for both Viking and Malta and print three copies
  • Complete a Boarding Pass for Viking
  • Complete a Health Questionnaire for Viking
  • Upload proof of vaccination to our phones
  • Print out a copy of our Viking Journey Summary for Malta customs
And we will have another COVID test before we board the ship. And we will be wearing masks from the moment we enter Dulles Airport until we arrive at our hotel in Valleta, Malta the next day.

This will seem like a steeplechase race with lots of hurdles to clear!

  1. Friends who flew here from Amsterdam a few weeks ago said once meals were served, masks came off and about half of the passengers remained unmasked. Otherwise hurdles seem par for the traveler’s course, though it’s simpler with one flight.
